Administration embarks on rehabilitation scheme for Lyariites

The Karachi administration, per directives of the provincial government, has embarked upon a scheme to facilitate the rehabilitation of people in their homes in Lyari, following the gradual restoration of peace and normalcy in one of the oldest residential areas of provincial metropolis.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) South Mustafa Jamal Kazi briefed the Karachi Commissioner Shoaib Ahmad Siddiqui and representatives of Kutchi and Baloch communities, the major stakeholders in Lyari. Kazi said that optimum support was being provided to the families who left the area due to in-fighting and questionable security situation.
He made an extensive presentation about issues related to law and order, migration of residents, incidents of rocket firing and destruction of houses of people pertaining to the two communities.
Furthermore, DC South said police and Rangers’ along with area representatives were being actively involved in the re-settlement procedure so as to restore the public confidence on lasting basis and sound grounds.
Representatives from Lyari, comprising of members belonging to the two communities appreciated the coordination committee constituted by the commissioner, in which they too were included, had been holding their meetings with absolute punctuality since July 8.
The representatives said these measures had restored the confidence of both the Kutchi as well as Baloch people and consequently people compelled to abandon their homes were coming back with the hope to re-start a normal life.
They also agreed to continue being an active part of the coordinated efforts so that any discrepancy that may, owing to any reason, re-errupt the rehabilitation process was immediately addressed under the supervision of the commissioner.
The representatives of the two communities appreciated that the SP-City had ensured his presence in the area, almost round the clock, so that he may be readily available to address any problems being faced by the residents.
