Court orders freezing of top babu’s assets

All main accused involved in ephedrine quota case on Saturday submitted details of their bank accounts in the court. The accused include Musa Gilani, Abdul Qadir Gilani, Fauzia Gilani and former health minister Makhdoom Shahabuddin. They submitted details of their bank accounts and assets through their counsels. While submitting details of their bank accounts, Musa Gilani said he has only Rs 1 million in his bank account, adding that he received the money on his wedding from relatives. Whereas, Abdul Qadir Gilani has only Rs 400,000 in his account and their mother Fauzia Gilani has only Rs 27,000 in her account. Shahabuddin said he had inherited agriculture land worth millions of rupees and his income is over Rs 5 million per annum. The court adjourned the matter until July 30. Hearing the case, the Court of Control of Narcotics Substances (CNS) on Saturday ordered seizure of moveable and immovable assets of former health secretary Khushnood Akhtar Lashari and three others upon their failure to appear before the court despite repeated notices.
Special Judge Arshad Mehmood Tabusum resumed hearing of the case and ordered the seizure of assets belonging to former bureaucrat Lashari, who played main role in issuing of exceeded ephedrine quota. During the last hearing, Lashari was asked by the court to produce details of his assets, but he ignored the court directions. After which, the court directed the authorities to seize Lashari’s houses situated in Lahore and Islamabad. Meanwhile, the court also directed the authorities concerned to confiscate assets belonging to Pharmaceutical Director Col (r) Tahirul Wadood Lahoti, chief executive of Berlex Lab International Multan Iftikhar Khan Babar and Director Rizwan Ahmed Khan.
