Staff put on high alert ahead of monsoon

KMC Administrator Syed Hashim Raza Zaidi has said that effective arrangements for dealing with emergency situation and drainage of rainwater in every district should be made due to monsoon rains, and the staff and machinery should be kept in fine condition so that prompt drainage of rainwater could start immediately.

He said the staff and machinery of concerned departments should be available on roads during rains and perform water drainage works.

He said this while addressing a review meeting held on monsoon rains, cleanliness of storm water drains, spray campaign and emergency situation in KMC hospitals.

On the occasion, officers and heads of concerned departments were also present. He directed relevant departments to make arrangements for provision of facilities where required. He also directed that municipal commissioners of all districts, chief engineers and all staff should be alert for rain emergency and works under a comprehensive strategy and mutual cooperation should be carried out.

He said cleanliness of all storm water drains should be ensured before monsoon rains. Rain emergency centers have been established in municipal services department for dealing with challenges of monsoon rains which would be in contact with central control room 1339 whereas focal persons have also been deployed in different districts of the city who would perform monitoring works in their jurisdictions so that citizens could contact with them in case of any emergency during rains.

He said that district municipal corporations should fully concentrate on cleanliness of big and small nullahs, repairing of nullah walls and water drainage works so that citizens during rains would not have to face any inconvenience moreover the district municipal commissioners should also point out those locations in their areas where rainwater was accumulated in the past so that those locations could be given special attention and barriers in drainage works could be removed.

He directed the concerned departments to continue the campaign which was underway in various areas of the city throughout the year. He also directed to adopt policy for better utilisation of available resources and resolve the problems faced by citizens.
