Body formed to resolve water issues in city

Karachi Commissioner Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui on Wednesday took notice of damaged pipelines, long-closure and non-availability of water in different areas of Karachi and formed a three-member committee to tackle all the issues.

He summoned an emergency meeting of all the deputy commissioners and the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board’s (KWSB) officers and chief engineers at his office. Siddiqui directed that all the resources should be brought into use to provide water to the citizens, especially in North Karachi, Safoora Goth and Gulistane Johar.

The commissioner also directed to repair all broken lines and remove all faults in the lines so that drinking water could be supplied to the citizens through taps. He said the government was fully alive with the water shortage in Karachi and different mega projects were being introduced and very soon this shortage of water would be controlled.

He announced three members committee led by Deputy Managing Director KWSB Iftikhar. Other members of the committee are Zafar Palijo and Chief Hydrants Rashid Siddiqui to ensure free water tankers during Ramadan. The committee will chalk out a strategy and present before the commissioner.

The area DCs informed the commissioner that water supply in their areas was being improved and all resources were being utilised to overcome the water shortage. The commissioner was informed that due to war-footing measures taken by KWSB situation of water supply in Gulistn-e-Juahar had improved.
