In the last few days, British envoy Adam Thomson has said many things about MQM chief Altaf Husain, now a British citizen, who controls his Karachi-based party from long distance. When Altaf Bhai threatened to separate Karachi from the country, his damage control team quickly came into action to mitigate his remarks but Mr Thomson took umbrage to Bhai’s diatribe. Frankly, Bhai’s speech did not surprise me as much as did Mr Thomson taking offence to it. Bhai has probably irked Thomson on some other count that we do not know about. Otherwise, why would the envoy object to something that Bhai has been saying from time to time? If the UK government asks Bhai how he survives there and what his source of income is, the revelation would shock many. Bhai has lived in London for decades without doing anything. Many in poor Pakistan think he is, in fact, a source of income for the Brits who have fallen on hard times.
