The CDA fire fighters on Thursday extinguished a fire which erupted at the Margalla Hills near Monal Restaurant and Pir Sohawa picnic point.
According to an official of the Capital Development Authority (CDA), the fire erupted at 9am at jungle number RS-16 and spread to a vast area of the hills within a short span of time, however, it was suppressed after a four-hour long operation.
Around 65 fire fighters took part in the operation. The official said the reason for fire eruption was yet to be ascertained. An inquiry into the incident had been initiated. He said the location of site, which was far from the road, and uneven surface area impeded the operation.
He claimed that no grown trees had been gutted except bushes and small plants. The fire at the hills has become an annual phenomenon which occurs during every summer, which not only destroys the natural beauty but also harms wildlife.
Two other such incidents were reported in the vicinity of the Jinnah Avenue and the Cantt where the fire extinguishers saved the day owing to a timely rescue operation.
