Caretaker Punjab Chief Minister Najam Sethi has absolved the caretaker government of rigging allegations and has put the responsibility on Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP)’s shoulders.

Sethi, while addressing a press conference at the National Press Club on Wednesday, said that the caretaker government had no responsibilities inside the polling stations. He said that there were 40 thousand polling stations in the province and if rigging occurred in some 40 polling stations it did not impact the results significantly.

He emphasised that the caretaker government must remain neutral during elections and his government performed its duty well. “We protected the politicians by elaborate arrangements against security threats,” he added.

To a question, the caretaker chief minister said that he would not like to become chief minister in the upcoming government because of the post’s low salary and would instead revive his television program.

Sethi said that the government worked day and night to control the law and order problem for elections security. Sethi said that was saddened by the media running false stories against him, adding that no officers were reshuffled on partisan grounds.

However, he lauded the media’s role during and after the elections in reporting information regarding vote counting.
