Punjab Planning & Development (P&D) Department has furnished the reference case against two former officials of the department who were involved in financial embezzlement of government funds amounting to Rs 2.1 million.
The reference was provided for action under PEEDA Act 2006 and lodging of FIR against the officials in the Punjab Anti-Corruption Establishment. A P&D spokesman said on Thursday that under the directions of Punjab P&D Board chairman, Punjab P&D Secretary Arif Anwar Baloch took action against the guilty officials; former section officer general (BS-17) Muhammad Sabir Raza and former P&D cashier (BS-14) Raza Khan. The case has been sent to Punjab additional chief secretary for disciplinary proceedings. The references stated that both the officials were presently working in the Home Department and Punjab Women Development Department respectively. During the service period of both officials in the P&D Department, they were involved in embezzlement of government funds worth Rs 2,135,744. The officials have been accused of misplacing original file of Travelling Allowance bills, missing entries in cash book, incomplete and fake entries for drawing money and non-payment of dues to contractors among other charges.
The spokesman said that the case has been sent to the Punjab government for initiating disciplinary proceedings and lodging an FIR against the two officials was also recommended. He added that a charge sheet along with relevant documents and list of witnesses had also been forwarded with the case for proceeding further in this matter.
P&D Department has also nominated Transport Superintendent Khalid Mehmood as a representative to provide any assistance in this regard.
