Rawalpindi residents on Wednesday expressed concern about huge billboards on commercial and residential buildings without adequate structural capacity in the city.

They said that wind storms of 90 km/hour to 150 km/hour frequently blow in the city, and they can easily break these billboards, causing damage to the citizens’ lives and property.

Rawal Town Administrator Saif Anwar Jappa had taken notice of the situation and sent a letter to the Rawalpindi District Coordination Offier (DCO) for removing the billboards. The signboards were installed during the former district government’s tenure, but the cartaker government had declared them illegal.

Residents demanded the concerned authorities to take immediate and effective action to remove these safety hazards from the city’s buildings.
