The city remained in the grip of violence on Tuesday for the fourth consecutive day after four persons were shot dead during violent protests against rigging in May 11 polls.
Life in Nawabshah and adjoining came to a virtual standstill as all the business centers, private offices, educational institutions and transport remained off.
Due to critical law and order situation people restricted themselves indoors. The citizens also faced shortage of edibles and other daily use commodities due to closure of markets. Aerial firing in some areas was also reported further adding to the woes the local residents.
Deputy Commissioner Agha Nasir said heavy contingents of security forces had been deployed in troubled areas and additional contingents of police from other districts had also been called in to keep the law and order under control.
He said strict checking was being conducted at all entrance and exit points to avoid pouring in of miscreants to further sabotage already worsened situation.
Agha Nasir said strict action would be taken against the elements involved in creating disturbance and no one would be spared.
Meanwhile, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has demanded of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for re-conducting of polls in two constituencies of Nawabshah – NA-213 and PS-24 – under the supervision of army.
