Caretaker Prime Minister Hazar Khan Khoso on Monday postponed his address to the nation scheduled for Wednesday due to his visit to Peshawar.
He is likely to address the nation after his visit.
Sources in the Prime Minister’s Secretariat informed Pakistan Today that the PM would take the nation into confidence about the timely elections and would also to share the security arrangements being made in consultation with the provincial governments.
The recent spate of terrorist attacks in Karachi, Quetta and Peshawar were alarming and these attacks triggered a new debate whether the polls would be held on time or not. This debate further grew after the leadership of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and Awami National Party (ANP) in separate media interactions expressed their doubts about the timely elections, fearing that polls were not going to be held per schedule due to law and order situation.
Federal and provincial government’s also held a special meeting last week which was chaired by the PM which was briefed by the ISI director general and caretaker Interior Minister Malik Habib on security threats. A strategy was chalked out to counter terrorist threats and the Election Commission of Pakistan was also taken onboard in this regard.
