The Sindh Minister of Law and Prison Mehmood Yusuf Mandviwalla expected that the promulgation of the Prevention of Defacement of Property Ordinance-2013 will prevent the menace from growing and upon the promulgation of this ordinance, it will no longer be possible to ruin aesthetics of cities.
Per details, graffiti which has been used without any form of fear or restriction had been banned, which had otherwise become a mode of cheap marketing for small businesses.
The minister further said that the new ordinance prohibited defacement of property and made the offence punishable with an imprisonment term of six months, fine or both.
He further said that the new law also introduced the establishment of an Anti Property-Defacement Task Force which would include people from the civil society, including a member of electronic and print media. The said task force would assess the scope and nature of defacement and would also suggest ways to augment enforcement capability, survey the efforts of other jurisdictions to combat graffiti and to propose a comprehensive anti-defacement policy, he concluded.
