Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) has demanded to remove no-go areas, declare the entire city “sensitive” and deploy army personnel at all polling stations on the day of elections.
These demands were made by JI Karachi Chief Muhammad Hussain Mehanti while addressing a crowded press conference at Idara-e-Noor Haq here on Friday.
Talking to media, Mahenti said that JI workers were being threatened in several areas, including Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Federal B Area, New Karachi, North Nazimabad and Defence View, by the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) affiliated terrorists. Party flags, banners and posters have also been removed by these terrorists in many areas of the metropolis, he added.
Citing the example of a fresh incident of violence, the JI leader said that the MQM terrorists on Thursday night had badly tortured two JI workers, namely Ejaz and Saad Ali Khan, in Federal B area, Block 9, when they were busy in installing party flags and banners in the said area. They also tried to kidnap them, he added.
Giving details, Mahenti said that when the JI Karachi General Secretary Naseem Siddiqui went to the police station concerned to register an FIR against the MQM terrorists, the police refused to do so.
“Police is acting as the B-team of the MQM, as it has not yet taken any step against the terrorists,” Mahenti alleged.
He further said that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and caretaker government should take notice of the said terrorism incidents.
Speaking on the occasion, JI Sindh Chief Dr Mairajul-Huda Siddiqui had said that the MQM by observing two strikes in just three days had presented its manifesto before the people of the city that it would give terrorism, extortion and violence to the masses when voted to power.
“The elections in city should be held under the supervision of army, as police has failed to ensure safety to the people,” he added.
He further said that the credibility of the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Fakruddin Ibrahim was linked with the steps that he would take.
“The action should be taken against both the Taliban and ‘Zaliman’,” Dr Mairaj added.
Meanwhile, Naseem Siddiqui, Raja Arif Sultan, Farooq Niamatullah, Hafiz Naeemur-Rehman, Nasrullah Shajih and Zahid Askari were also present on the occasion. Mustaqeem Noorani of the JUP also spoke on the occasion.
