Students of Roots International School celebrated Earth Day with planting saplings. The occasion was graced by Capital Development Authority Director for Sports and Culture Malik Atta.
Atta said the current times demanded more stewards to take care of our plant earth. He said he felt honoured with children who had shown up in a large number to mark this special day. “I hope everyone can find time on Earth Day to engage in an activity that honours the gracious mother earth and if not possible then some time should be taken out to reflect on the beauty of the natural world,” he said.
Roots International Schools Chief Executive Waid Mushtaq said Earth Day was a day when we could appreciate our plant and put efforts to prevent damage to it. “Planting flowers on Earth Day is a simple way to celebrate the environment,” he said, adding the RIS wanted to be a part of the efforts made to decrease pollution in the environment.
Earth Day is celebrated on April 22 every year to raise awareness on environment protection. The day was first celebrated in 1970 which had participants and celebrants from two thousand colleges and universities and ten thousand primary and secondary school from across the United Stations. Since then the Earth Day Network globally coordinates for celebrating the day.
