A minor died of measles in Children’s Hospital on Monday, raising the measles death toll to 51 in Punjab.
Other deaths were reported from Gujranwala, Rajanpur, Rahim Yar Khan and Kasur. As many as 9,372 cases of measles have been reported from different parts of Punjab during the last five months, mostly from Lahore during the current surveillance drive.
Punjab EPI Health Services Director Dr Tanveer Ahmed said, “As many as 81 cases of measles were reported from different areas of the Punjab on Monday.”
Majority of deaths in Lahore were caused due to acute pneumonia and delay in shifting patients to hospitals.
Dr Tanveer added that measles vaccination was available in ample quantity in all city hospitals and patients were being treated free-of-cost. He appealed to the parents to get their children up to five years of age vaccinated without any delay and cooperate with the vaccinators so that they could perform their duty well.
