Punjab Health Secretary Arif Nadeem has said that special anti-measles drive would be launched in the city from April 29 to May 5.
The health secretary issued these directions while presiding over a high-level meeting to review the arrangements for special anti-measles drive in Lahore. The meeting was attended by Health Additional Secretary (Tech) Dr Anwar Janjua, Health Additional Secretary Establishment Asfand Yaar Khan, Health Director General Dr Tanveen Ahmed, Lahore Health EDO Dr Zulfiqar Ali, medical superintendents of Lahore General Hospital, Jinnah Hospital, Services Hospital, Mayo Hospital, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, Lady Wallingdon Hospital, Lady Aitcheson Hospital, Mian Nawaz Sharif Hospital, Sayyad Mitha Hospital, Kot Khawaja Saeed Hospital, Mian Munshi Hospital, Children’s Hospital and principals of all nursing schools along with deans of Institute of Public Health and Institute of Child Health.
The health secretary said that during the anti-measles drive more than three million children from 6 months to 10 years of age would be administered measles vaccine. He directed the medical superintendents and principals of government hospitals and nursing schools of Lahore to provide lists of vaccinators according to the allotted numbers to the Health Department. He said that the vaccination staff should discharge their duties during the special anti-measles drive with full dedication with a spirit of national responsibility. He said that 100 percent attendance of vaccinating staff must be ensured. He warned that no negligence and leniency would be tolerated. He disclosed that special incentive would also be provided to the duty staff of the special anti-measles drive.
Health Additional Secretary (Tech) Dr Anwar Janjua informed the meeting that almost 900 workers would be deputed throughout the city at UC level, for this purpose. He said that the relevant staff would be provided by government hospitals and nursing schools. He said that on April 27, special training would also be imparted to the vaccinators.
It's so sad that Pakistan is obsessed with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation funded Polio program, when vaccines like this are desperately needed and funded.
