As many as 1,500 Indian Sikh pilgrims arrived at the Wahga border on Wednesday by special trains to celebrate Besakhi festival.
Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee President Sardar Sham Singh, Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) Vice Chairman Chaudhry Riaz and other officers received them.
Talking to the media, leader of Sikh pilgrims Sardar Balwindar Singh Bhopal expressed satisfaction over the arrangements made by the ETPB. He urged both Indian and Pakistani governments to take steps for bringing people of both countries closer each other.
Soon after the arrival, the pilgrims left for Punja Sahib, Hassanabdal, for Besakhi celebrations. The pilgrims will stay there for three days and perform rituals. Later, they will go to Nankana Sahib on April 14. They will also visit Janam Asthan Baba Guru Nanak and Sucha Soda. On April 17, the pilgrims would come back to Lahore and visit their holy places. They will also visit Rohri Sahib, Aimanabad. The pilgrims will head back to India on April 19.
The Pakistan government has made tight security arrangements besides immigration, customs, bank and medical camp facilities at Wahga railway station to facilitate the pilgrims.
