The Supreme Court on Wednesday took strong exception to authorities’ failure in bringing back Tauqir Sadiq, the former OGRA chairman allegedly involved in Rs 82 billion corruption scam, ordering that all miscellaneous petitions in the case be sent to accountability courts for hearing.

The division bench headed by Justice Jawad S Khwaja was hearing the implementation of OGRA case on Wednesday. Officials of NAB and FIA were present in the court room.

Justice Khwaja said everybody knew that the accused was sitting abroad while arrest warrants were being served at his Model Town Lahore address.

He said the investigation officer in the case returned to Pakistan after meeting Sadiq in the UAE. The judge sought a report, seeking explanation why the court’s orders were not implemented.

NAB prosecutor General KK Agha told the court that measures for bringing back Sadiq were in the final stages and he would be brought back soon.

He said the delay in filing the reference was due to non-provision of evidence.

To this, Justice Khwaja said, “You filed the reference after more than a year. Thank God you found the evidence otherwise the reference may have not been filed.”

Agha said an accused Shahbaz Saleem Bhatti was pardoned by the anti-graft body.

Justice Kh asked how could an accused be pardoned when he had pleaded guilty.

The court ordered the miscellaneous petitions in this case be sent to accountability courts for hearing and directed the NAB and FIA to pace up their efforts to arrest Sadiq and bring him back to the country.

The hearing was then adjourned until April 17.

  1. The courts are being played like a drum and they are part of all these scandals. They are as much to blame for not bringing sadiq back as the govt. Whats so hard to find out who is causing the delay? The judges look like clowns.
