Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry has said that the court would go to all extremes to recover the embezzled wealth of the nation and the recovered money would be returned to the national kitty.
A three-member SC bench presided over by the CJP resumed hearing in the NICL scam case on Wednesday.
Azam Khan, FIA director legal appeared in the court and presented a report, informing the court that corruption had been committed in the purchase of land in Lahore and a sum of Rs 470 million was yet to be recovered.
He said Amin Fahim purchased 10 acres of land at a cost of Rs 900 million. Accused Chaudhry Akram gave forged cheque of Rs 40 million and has since disappeared. “Matters have been finalised to put the names of culprits on the ECL,” Khan said.
Per report, Fahim, Suleman Ghani and Ayyaz Niazi were involved in corruption case.
The CJP said, “We will go to all extremes to recover stuck up public wealth. This amount will not be given to anyone but the national exchequer. How are courts granting bail in the absence of the accused,” he inquired.
Khan said bail had been granted to former president Pervez Musharraf.
“These are the people who are present in the country and they will also be granted bail. It has been told that challan has been presented against Amin Fahim and Suleman Ghani and Amin Fahim and Mohsin Warraich are on protective bail.”
The CJP observed that Amin Dada, Khalid Anwar and Javed Munir were also involved in the corruption.
Khan said matters had been settled to the extent of Karachi and a trial had started against the accused.
The court disposed of the case to the extent of Karachi. The court was also told that matters related to Lahore were still under investigation.
The court ruled that cases of the accused being heard in Karachi should be decided without being influenced.
While adjourning the hearing, the court summoned a detailed report from FIA director general and the Ministry of Commerce.
Somebody tell this bloke that Chief Justices do not make such political statements. Where have the times gone when Judges were never seen or heard, only their judgements were read as far as the general public is concerned. Afterall the domain of a hawker on NewKhan Bus Service should not be infringed upon by anyone.
