The impediments in the way of construction of the Lyari Expressway have been removed amicably with the mutual consent of the locals of the area who have to be relocated to another location.
This was stated by the Karachi Commissioner Hashim Raza Zaidi here on Tuesday. He was speaking on the occasion of distribution of compensation cheques to the affected population of the area in the office of the District Commissioner South.
Cheques worth Rs 450 million were distributed on the occasion, said a Commissioner Office statement. Hashim Zaidi said that the amount would also be disbursed promptly among the affected people.
He made it clear that all affectees would get all their legal dues and that no injustice would be tolerated in this regard. The commissioner lauded the spirit of sacrifice of those whose houses had come in the way of the Lyari Expressway.
He said that, upon completion, the project would contribute greatly towards the national economy. On the occasion, Karachi South Deputy Commissioner Dr Saifur Rehman apprised the commissioner of development works being carried out in his jurisdiction.
