Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) will name its Sargodha Campus after the Late MM Alam, PAF pilot and hero of the 1965 war.
The campus would be built during the next financial year and would provide complete infrastructure and academic network to the students of the region.
Necessary financial allocation for the construction of the campus has already been made and a piece of land has also been provided.
AIOU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nazir Ahmed Sangi, while addressing a Pakistan Day function, said that the new campus would have the facilities of video-conferencing, computer labs, examination halls, class rooms, information counters, library and internet.
The Vice-Chancellor announced that the students of the AIOU would be facilitated to appear in their exams and would submit their assignments near their home towns.
The university, he added, would lay great focus on improving the quality of education and promoting technical know-how among the student.
“Technical and vocational trainings would be also be given to female students,” he said.
Dr Sangi urged AIOU students to play their role in the task of nation- building and helping the government to overcome illiteracy.
He also highlighted the efforts being made by the AIOU for setting up model centres in the country’s far-flung areas like Umerkot, DG Khan, Rahim Yar Khan, Bahawalpur, Mianwali, Hyderabad, Skardu, Mithi, Kalat, Larkana, Liaqatpur, Dadu, Swat, Kohat and Chitral.
