A Station House Officer (SHO) was killed in a deadly clash between two student groups at Quaid-e-Awam Engineering University on Friday. Some 15 students also injured in the clash.
Two groups of students clashed inside the university and situation went out of control after police were called in to control the situation.
SHO Abdul Rahim Khaskheli was critically injured during an exchange of fire. He was rushed to a local hospital where he succumbed to injuries.
According to doctors, the SHO suffered four bullets. Police and Rangers later surrounded the hostel and arrested some students.
Blasts damage railway track:Two consecutive bomb blasts damaged railway tracks which disrupted the up and down railway traffic late on Thursday night.
According to police, two powerful blasts hit railway tracks in Bin Qasim area of Karachi. The blasts damaged the railway tracks which suspended the arrival and departure of trains.
Rangers and police were called on the site of occurrence in order to control the turbulent situation. The railway traffic was restored as railway authorities repaired the damaged tracks immediately. Police said unidentified miscreants had installed bombs on the track which was partially damaged.
Another bomb planted on Kotri railway track exploded when personnel of bomb disposal squad were trying to defuse it. An ASI also injured in the explosion.
Upon receiving information, security forces including police and Rangers reached the site of occurrence, cordoned off the area and started search operation in order to avoid any further mishap.A large number of passengers had to face difficulties as they could not leave for their destinations according to their schedule.
Over 24 suspects arrested in Lyari : The city police conducted overnight search operation in Lyari on Friday and the exchange of gunfire is still continuing in Afshani Street.
According to South DIG Shahid Hayat, the Lyari area where the operation was still in progress includes Kala Kot, Kalri and Khajoor Bazaar. Police claimed to have arrested several people in the action. The police also entered Afshani Street which is notorious for gang war. The police personnel are currently locked in gunfight with the miscreants.
