The National University of Science and Technology (NUST) on Monday awarded a Doctorate of Philosophy (Ph.D.) to the visiting Egyptian President Dr Mohamed Morsi at a special convocation ceremony held at the NUST campus in Islamabad.
The degree was awarded to the Egyptian President in recognition of his achievements and significant contributions towards promotion of peace and harmony in the world and strengthening of relations with the Muslim countries, especially Pakistan.
Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf was also present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Mohammed Morsi said Islam urged Muslims to seek knowledge and get enlightened by the development of science and technology.
The Egyptian President urged the new generation to get scientific knowledge despite challenges.
He said Muslim scientists made many achievements in the field of science in the past and now it was the responsibility of the young generation to follow the suit.
He said European philosophers also appreciated the successes of the Muslim scientists.
Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf, speaking on the occasion, lauded the struggle of Dr Morsi for democracy and for the provision of the basic rights of the people through a peaceful struggle.
He said Pakistan was looking forward to new vistas of cooperation with Egypt in various fields, including agriculture, health and higher education.
He congratulated Dr Morsi for the honorary PhD degree from NUST, a prestigious educational institution of Pakistan.
He said being the Prime Minister of Pakistan and the chancellor of NUST, he extended his heartiest felicitations to Egyptian President on receiving this degree.
Referring to the maiden visit of President Morsi, the Prime
Minister said he was confident that this visit would serve as a basis to further deepen, diversify and strengthen bilateral relations between Pakistan and Egypt.
He said Pakistan and Egypt had a rich history of time-honoured diplomatic relations.
He said Egypt’s support and solidarity with the people and government of Pakistan had always been exemplary.
Prime Minister Ashraf said both the countries stood by each other on war against terror and at times of crises.
He also acknowledged the relief consignments for the internally displaced people of Egypt and added that being the member of the Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC) and the D-8
Organization for Economic Cooperation, both the countries had jointly cooperated at different fronts.
“We have been actively involved in trade in the past and are looking forward to the future prospects,” he added.
Prime Minister Ashraf said Pakistan had positively anticipated the profiting investment between the two countries and therefore he cordially invited Egyptian enterprises to invest in Pakistan.
“We do have a rich textile industry, while Egypt has a diversified telecom sector,” he added.
Regarding the educational sector, the Prime Minister said both the countries had a good tradition of exchanging talented students and added that Al-AzharUniversity had played a pivotal role in this regard.
He said Pakistan was looking forward to opening up new vistas of cooperation in various fields including agriculture, health and higher education.

Morsi Is the best president of Egypt in the history , so he has a lot of enemies.
Morsi was the foulest president to have an honour and the more foolish person who gave him one like this
