At least three people were killed and another 20 were injured in a suicide blast and subsequent firing near a police station in Bannu on Tuesday.
According to the local police, intense firing was heard soon after an explosion near Sadar Police Station where checkposts and police stations are often attacked by militant groups.
Police said the suicide bomber targetted a police van, killing two police officials and an unidentified man as well as injuring another 20. They said the vehicle was also completely destroyed.
Rescue teams rushed to the scene and took the injured to nearby hospitals while the security forces cordoned off the area.
