National Assembly Standing Committee on Human Rights Chairman Riaz Fatyana on Sunday summoned Punjab police inspector general (IG) on March 14 for his failure to protect life and property of Christian citizens at Badami Bagh in the wake of blasphemy allegations.
Talking to reporters, Fatyana said Islam had attached great importance to the protection of life and property of all people, irrespective of their race, religion, caste or ethnicity. He condemned the attack on the Christian community at Joseph Town.
Furthermore, he said it was a constitutional obligation of the Punjab government, especially law enforcement agencies, to ensure security of all citizens.
Moreover, he said that if the police had taken timely action, the tragic incident could have been controlled and prevented.
He said the standing committee had taken serious notice of the criminal negligence of the police in its failure to handle the situation and had summoned the IG to explain his position.
IG police should be put in jail too for failing to do his job. Confiscate his retirement benefits and fire him from his job.
