Violence leaves nine more dead

As many as nine people were killed in various incidents of violence here in the city on Saturday.
Two people were killed and one was injured in a firing incident by unidentified armed men near Sabri Chowk, Orangi Town, within the limits of Iqbal Market police station. The bodies and the injured were rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities and treatment respectively.
Station House Officer (SHO) Sabir Khattak said three people, residents of Tori Bangash Colony, were going somewhere when armed bike-riders opened fire on them. As a result, two persons died on the spot while the other sustained injuries.
The dead were identified as Ali Ejaz, 24, son of Ejaz, and Ali Nawaz 22, son of Muhammad Nawaz, while the injured was Hashim, 33. Police suspected the men were targeted on sectarian basis.
A medico-legal officer said both the victims received eight bullets in their bodies while the injured was hit by three bullets and was shifted to a private hospital in critical condition.
Separately, three bodies with several bullet and torture marks were found from different areas of Maripur, within the limits of Maripur police station. The bodies were shifted to Edhi Morgue for identification after completing the legal formalities.
Police said the bodies were found from different areas of Maripur, including Musharaf Colony, Mawach Goth Service Road and the graveyard. Identify of the victims could not be ascertained yet.
Ahle Sunnat Wal jamaat worker Mufti Muhammad Nadeem, 33, son of Muhammad Akram, was gunned down by unidentified armed men in Green Town, Shah Faisal Colony, within the precincts of Shah Faisal Colony police station. The body was shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for medico-legal formalities.
The police said the man was sitting at his milk shop in Green Town Asif School Road area when armed bike-riders targeted him. He was critically injured in the firing and died on the way to hospital.
The body of a man, whose identity could not be ascertained yet, was found near Bait-ul-Mukarram Masjid, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Block 16, within the remit of Aziz Bhatti police station. It was moved to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital Karachi for an autopsy.
Police said the man was killed somewhere else and later his body was thrown from a speeding car early this morning in the said area. Police said the man was brutally tortured before shooting in his head which proved fatal for him.
Another body was found in C-1 Area, Liaquatabad Town, within the jurisdiction of Super Market police station.
The identity of the deceased could not be ascertained. The body was brought to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for a postmortem.
Police said the body was found in C-1 Area near Inam Masjid. The victim received two bullets in his upper torso, said the police.
