Instead of being a blessing for commuters, traveling on the route 101 of the IJ Principal Road had become troublesome for them as the buses being used on the route were obsolete.
This problem on the route was inter-linked with the difficulty causes by a large number of commuters, waiting on both sides of IJ Principal Road.
Salman Ahmed, a government employee, while narrating his ordeals of traveling on the route said, “Most of the buses plying on the route are in a bad condition and although some passengers manage to get seats, those waiting face immense humiliation at the hands of bus conductors”. “Many people risk their lives by boarding the rooftops of the buses, especially the youngsters, but the concerned authorities do not really care,” Zaka Ullah, another commuter said.
“I have seen commuters clinging on the buses’ gates lose grip and fall on the road receiving serious injuries,” he added.
A female commuter said, “The buses have a few seats for women but unfortunately they are all occupied by male passengers”.
Most of the passengers also complained about unjustified rules adopted by transporters, saying that the coaches had many stopovers and did not move until the next bus arrived.
Many among them were of the view that the monopoly of the transport companies should be discouraged with the introduction of other public transport.
