It was Shaukat Tarin who stood up, objected and ensured that rental power projects be subjected to audit by Asian Development Bank, while powerful bureaucracy and other members of the federal cabinet chose to play along and perhaps have a share of the goodies that are often associated with such approvals. His implication by NAB may either be because he was part of the decision making team, or a deliberate attempt to teach him a lesson for blowing the whistle or raising alarm while he was in power. It takes courage, conviction and character, which are a rare commodity amongst the ruling elite, be they from political parties or paid bureaucracy to stand up and object to a project, which has somehow sailed through the technical experts employed by state, at tax-payer’s expense to discharge their professional obligations with integrity.
While Shaukat chose to resign and walk away, rather than be part of this team, all other members of coalition government chose to continue to be part of cabinet and hence equally responsible for all credits and discredits of this government. We must remember that without the support of coalition partners, this government would have fallen and all these scams that have occurred would never have taken place. Had Shaukat Tarin not objected, the impact on our economy and losses to state exchequer would have been unbearable for already fragile economy. It was he who tried to document the economy, a move which our corrupt bureaucracy obstructed, because it benefits from status quo. Truth shall prevail and the Supreme Court of Pakistan will finally succeed in unravelling facts, inspite of impediments by NAB, sitting government, a compliant bureaucracy and many billionaires involved in this scam.
Agree with you, because press reports of that period state d that only Shaukat Tareen stood up and exposed this scam, otherwise the whole corrupt bureaucracy, with likes of Shahid Rafi, Salmanazars Siddique were hand in gloves with Raja Rental, Gillani and rest
