An anti-terrorism court rejected the medical report of prime suspect Shahrukh Jatoi, in the Shahzeb Khan murder case, and issued show-cause notices to the medical superintendent of the Civil Hospital and a police surgeon.

Shahrukh Jatoi was produced along with other accused Siraj Talpur, Sajjad Talpur and Ghulam Murtaza Lashari before the Karachi’s anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Wednesday.

Strict security measures were in place.

During the course of the hearing, the investigating officer also requested the court that the investigations are still pending thus the date to present the challan should be extended till Feb 10.

The court also sought answer from the investigating officer regarding medical certificate of Shahrukh Jatoi.

Investigating officer told the court that Jatoi’s medical exam was performed on the order of the court. When Jatoi was taken to Civil Hospital for checkup the MS refused to conduct the check up and he was sent to Police Surgeon.

ATC judge Ghulam Mustafa Memon rejected the medical certificate and said the police surgeon who identified the age of Shahrukh Jatoi was not eligible to do so as the task was assigned to the Civil Hospital.

The court issued show-cause notices to the medical superintendent of the Civil Hospital and a police surgeon

ATC judge also ordered police to submit challan before February 10.

The anti-terrorism court directed Sindh’s Inspector General of Police (IGP), Fayyaz Ahmed Leghari to provide protection to all the witnesses of the Shahzeb murder case until the case reaches its end.

The next hearing will be held on February 10.

Earlier, father of the murdered boy, questioned as to how Shahrukh Jatoi the main accused could possess an identity card if he was proclaimed underage by medical officers.

Talking to media before going to the special anti-terrorism court (ATC) hearing the case regarding his son’s assassination, Shahzeb’s father DSP Aurangzeb said he will demand the court that a new medical board should be constituted to ascertain the age of Shahrukh Jatoi, the main accused in Shahzeb murder case.

Seeing that Shahrukh is an underage boy, how can he have an identity card, questioned Shahzeb’s father.

He added that he was being extremely pressured for reconciliation to spare Shahrukh Jatoi however, he would not flinch an inch back from the acquisition of justice.

  1. It is quite possible that Jatoi's family bribed the police surgeon to declare Shahrukh a minor to avoid death penalty. An independent medical examination of Jatoi to determine his real age is an absolute must. If he is determined to be over 18, then the police surgeon and civil judge who issued and accepted the earlier medical should be charged with criminal involvement to subvert justice and they too should be locked up for a very long time. An example needs to be set here, that powerful cannot get bogus certificates to suit their purposes and let it be a lesson to all doctors and lower judiciary that if you you falsify evidence, you will face criminal charges.

      • I agree with you whole heartedly on this one sacked the judges and those involved in subverting justice

    • I'd say it is a certainty that the system is being manipulated (Jatoi's family might not have bribed the police surgeon directly but one of the 'fixers' did).

There is NO QUESTION/DOUBT his father helped him escape (again a call to a fixers/friend) and gave false testimony. Waiting for when charges are filed against him………….waiting……………….waiting……………….still waiting……………
