Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Minister Syed Mehdi Shah said on Tuesday the PPP leadership had made great sacrifices for democracy in the country and it was for the people to decide who should run the government via free and fair elections.
Speaking at a breakfast hosted by PPP Punjab Additional General Secretary Ghulam Mohyuddin Dewan, he said the assemblies could not be dissolved through long marches.
“The PPP is the only party which has given due rights to the people of Gilgit-Baltistan,” he said. He said the democratic process in the country had strengthened as the government was about to complete its five-year tenure.
“However, some elements are busy creating unrest in the country. Peaceful elections are the only solution to our problems,” he added. Shah said it was totally wrong to call PPP a one-family party as its leadership had sacrificed lives for the country and its people. “The government controlled the Quetta situation according to the demands of the people,” he added.
The chief minister said that the president had also given powers to the parliament via the 18th and 19th amendments.
PPP Punjab Additional General Secretary Ghulam Mohyuddin said Gilgit-Baltistan had great strategic importance as it bordered with China.
Shah also said the government should review the decision of declaring India a most favoured nation.
He said the Punjab government had not started a single project to overcome the electricity crisis despite their claims that they would overcome the crisis in one year. Dr Hasnat Shah, Raja Amir and Maulana Yusuf Awan were also present at the occasion.
