CCPO to not tolerate inefficient cops

Lahore Capital City Police Officer ( CCPO) Muhammad Aslam Tareen reviewed annual progress of the complaint cell set up at CCPO’s office and ordered unyielding punitive actions against all police officers proved to have had not assisted citizens in their problems.

The complaint cell in charge briefed the CCPO that a total of 7,452 complaints had been lodged against the police officials in 2012. He elaborated that out of the total, 662 complaints were referred to the cell by the prime minister, 1,539 by the chief minister, 3,297 by Punjab IG, 239 by Punjab chief secretary, 82 by the home secretary and 152 complaints were lodged at the cell by the commissioner’s office. It was learnt that policemen were awarded punishments on 179 applications.

The cell in charge told that the cell had received a total of 13,426 complaints in 2012, out of which 4,806 cases were solved, 304 cases were disposed off, whereas investigations on 111 cases were transferred. Moreover, the cell rejected 2,040 applications. Of the total applications rejected, 990 did not fall under the jurisdiction of Police, 449 had filed wrong information and the rest were rejected due to non pursuance. Meanwhile, 2,012 applications proved to be bogus and1, 251 were annulled as the disputing parties opted for conciliation.

Progress on 1,284 applications is still pending due to slack attitude of some police personnel.
