Pakistan State Oil (PSO) on Monday confirmed reports that it had in fact seized the supply of petrol to official vehicles of the Punjab chief secretary. The system whereby the officials could get petrol with the facility of ‘fleet cards’ has been suspended due to a very large amount not paid to PSO.
Reports show that due to the non availability of petrol several problems have started arising in the department and day to day activities of the entire office are being effected due to non payment.
Officials at the department say that it is routine for the government to use credit facilities in almost all procurement matters. Necessities such as stationary and repairs of machinery are actively done on credit basis and payments are only released in installments.
The stoppage in taking the ‘petrol fleet cards’ came 5 days ago and since then petrol pump owners have demanded that the outstanding bills be cleared immediately.
