Majority of technicians at Services Hospital unqualified

A majority of technicians working in various departments of Services Hospital Lahore are unqualified, sources said on Sunday.
Ten out of a total 230 technicians associated with different wards and operation theatres were qualified, while the remaining 220 were unqualified, they said.
The unqualified technicians are working in New X-ray block, X-ray department, Outdoor Patients Department (OPD), emergency department and in orthopedic operation theatre.
FSc with a year’s diploma in the department concerned from the Punjab Medical Faculty (PMF) is a basic requirement for a technician, but mostly matriculate were handling X-ray and other medical equipments in the hospital, the sources added.
Services Hospital MS Dr Rehana Malik refused to comment on the issue.
It was also learnt that some new medical equipment went out of order due to handling by unqualified staff.
An inquiry has, however, been ordered in this regard by the Punjab Health Department.
