Ameer Jamate Islami (JI) Syed Munawar Hassan said Tahirul Qadri is pursuing the agenda of establishment to postpone polls and must be stopped at any cost.
Addressing a press conference after talks with Jamhoori Watan Party chief Talal Akbar Bugti who called on him at Mansoora on Saturday, Munawar held Zardari responsible for the recent unconstitutional and undemocratic disturbances that he said furthered Musharraf’s agenda.
Those who sacrificed everything for democracy have the right to start a long march but a Canadian national, without sound and profound knowledge of the problems of masses, does not have that right, said the JI chief.
He alleged that the establishment was backing Qadri and claimed the long march would not be possible without the establishment’s assistance. “Systems cannot be changed by threats. It requires long-term struggle, unity of all patriotic forces over a single point agenda and a grand alliance to counter undemocratic forces,” said Munawar. He demanded an immediate end to military operations in Balochistan and said things were worsening there. He emphasised pursuance of constitutional methods to eliminate problems and hatred from the hearts of Balochs. Bugti said if Balochistan was getting weaponry from external forces then the government had failed completely. Some 144,000 votes had not been registered in Dera Bugti area and 250,000 in other areas of the province, Bugti said Earlier, Munawar Hassan welcomed the delegation of Jamhoori Watan Party. JI Secretary General Liaquat Baloch, JI Punjab chief Dr Wasim Akhtar, deputy secretary general Hafiz Sajid Anwar, Idara-e-Maaraf-e-Islami Director Hafiz Muhammad Idrees and JI Secretary Information Muhammad Anwar Niazi were also present on the ocassion.
