Abdul Qadir Gilani, son of former premier Yousuf Raza Gilani on Saturday, approached the Supreme Court (SC) requesting it to disassociate FIA Director Hussain Asghar from the Haj scam case claiming the officer was not impartial which was required from an investigating officer. Qadir also sought a restraining order against Asghar to stop probe into the authenticity of his BA degree. Asghar had recently submitted a progress report before the apex court alleging that during the investigation he found that Qadir possessed a ‘doubtful’ bachelor degree. In the report, he said the University of Punjab, Lahore, was asked to provide record of his degree in response of which the assistant controller of examination presented the attested record which showed that Qadir had not passed his examination. In his petition, Qadir alleged that Asghar had clearly violated his jurisdiction and acted without lawful authority, especially when he was not nominated in the FIR registered in the Haj corruption nor was his name mentioned in the charge sheet issued against former Haj Director General Rao Shakeel Ahmed. Asghar had been posted to Gilgit-Baltistan by premier Gilani but later the SC brought him back and directed him to resume his responsibility as head of the inquiry commission on the Haj scandal.
