Doctors from all quarters condemned the assault by young doctors on a senior doctor and demanded that Young Doctors Association (YDA) issue a formal apology for the attack.
Addressing the emergent meeting, General Cadre Doctors Association (GCDA) Punjab President Dr Masood Akhtar Sheikh announced that a black day would be observed throughout Punjab to condemn the act.
During black day the senior doctors will work with black ribbon, he said. He further said that a strategy will be devised to avoid such incidence in future.
The resolution announced that the General Cadre doctors would not be involved in any kind of strike and the OPDs of the entire province would remain open, providing proper healthcare facilities to the patients coming to the tertiary care hospital.
GCDA announced that a 15-member committee had been formed to recommend a course of action in this regard.
Dr Masood further said that such incidents are create a bad image of Pakistani doctors in the international community and may create obstacles for Pakistani doctors seeking higher education abroad.
He suggested that a chapter of medical ethics should be incorporated in the curriculam to improve the behavior of the doctors.
He stressed that doctors belong to a noble professional and they must act accordingly.
