Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Secretary General Liaqat Baloch on Monday said that demands put forth by Dr Tahirul Qadri on Sunday were ill-timed, contradictory and were presented at a time when the country was heading towards elections.
Commenting on the Dr Qadri’s address, he said that on one hand Qadri was saying that he did not want elections being postponed and on the other, he had given a deadline of January 14 for the implementation of the constitution or else he would lead a long march to Islamabad. The JI leader questioned Dr Qadri on how it was possible for the judiciary to being forth a new leadership without elections. He also said that it was the prerogative of the people to decide their next government, not Dr Qadri.
Baloch said that JI had been among the most vocal parties demanding a full implementation of the constitution, well before Dr Qadri appeared on the scene. The JI leader called for an immediate announcement of a caretaker government and an election schedule, adding that JI would not stand for a delay in polls.
