President Asif Ali Zardari has announced compensation of Rs 500,000 each for the families of anti-polio field workers, who were attacked in Karachi and Peshawar and lost their lives, and Rs 200,000 each for those, who were injured during the vaccination campaign. Presidential spokesperson Senator Farhatullah Babar said the President, while strongly condemning the attack on the anti-polio campaigners, had directed the law enforcing authorities to ensure safety and security of the field workers.
The President, while reiterating the commitment of the government to undertake every effort for the eradication of the disease, paid rich tributes to the field workers and volunteers, who were complementing the government’s efforts for the eradication of this crippling disease.
