In the backdrop of intense tension triggered in the aftermath of December 12 clashes, the city’s educational institutions have been closed down and inter-city public transport has been banned in the city on Wednesday.
A notification regarding the ban on the public transport has been issued. The sources said the intra-city transport will ply within the city as usual.
The sources said all exits and entrances have been sealed off. Stringent security arrangements have been made with contingents of police, the Rangers and scouts deployed around the city. Also, the ban on the use of motorbike persisted on the second day on Wednesday.
Despite the office opened today, the business activities are suspended in most areas.
Meantime, no culprit involved in targeted killings on Hospital Road and River View Road, could be arrested as yet. The citizens are concerned that Gilgit-Baltistan’s chief minister announced to conduct judicial inquiry into the all-encompassing tension; but, no headway could be achieved thus far.
Karakoram International University, Gilgit-Baltistan will remain closed till March 4, according to the university spokesman who said the decision has been taken in view of law and order situation in the city. He further said the university is being closed for winter vacations as well.
