Prime Minister (PM) Raja Pervaiz Ashraf while addressing notables from Gujjar Khan at the Prime Minister House on Saturday said that no government in the past has carried out as much development work as has been untertaken by the present Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) led coalition government.
The PM said the development work carried out by this government was unparalleled in the history of this country.
“The amount of work carried out by this government is more than the cumulative work done by governments in the last 25 years,” he said in a challenging tone. This claim could be verified from the record books, he added.
Ashraf said that the PPP strongly believed in strengthening the institutions of country.
He further said that the appointment of Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan as the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) Chairman and Fakhurddin G. Ibrahim as Chief Election Commissioner were proofs of the efforts put in the current government to strengthen the institutions. He also said that the media and judiciary were independent today and the government wanted to further strengthen all these institutions
Furthermore, he said that instead of launching schemes like the “Sasti Roti” and distribution of laptops, the federal government had launched the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) which was recognized globally as one of the best programmes launched for poverty alleviation.
Moreover, the PM said that by the grace of God, the present government would become the first civilian government to have completed its term, adding that this had happened despite predictions by analysts that the PPP government would not be able to complete its term.
“We are politicians and need no lessons from any one because we have proven ourselves with time”, he said.
