The provincial police has started upgrading of the forensic laboratory with installation of state of the art equipment and the upgrading of the laboratory for early detection of the criminal cases.
This was stated Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sindh, Fayyaz Ahmed Leghari while addressing a news conference here on Wednesday.
The provincial police required more forensic tools for early detection of criminal cases and in this regard, the project of upgrading of the forensic laboratory has been started with the technical and financial assistance of national institutions of crime control and funding of foreign donors, the IGP informed.
The IGP Sindh who earlier chaired a high level meeting at DIG Office to review the law and order situation in Hyderabad and Mirpurkhas Divisions and security plans for Muharram-ul-Haram, said that with provision of sophisticated equipment, the provincial police will be enable to ensure effective crime combating in the province.
He said that the provincial police is getting funds for introduction of sophisticated equipments including bomb disposal kits with objective to initiate rapid action against the criminals and their activities.
He said that Sindh Arms Act which will soon implement after passage from the provincial assembly will help in eradication of the possession of illicit weapons as proposal of enhancement of punishment has been incorporated in this act.
The IGP informed that during the current year, the police have recovered over 12000 sophisticated weapons which included anti-aircraft guns and sub-machine guns and if the possessors of these illicit weapons will get punishment as proposed in the Sindh Arms Act, the Police would achieve fruitful results in successfully blocking the routes of arms smuggling.
Responding to a question, the IGP Sindh said that the police have no information about the existence of any arms manufacturing factory in Karachi, however, he did not deny the smuggling of arms from other parts of the country.
About witness protection plan, Fayaz Ahmed Khan Leghari said that Sindh is the only province, which adopted this plan. The rules of the plan will be adopted in the next session of the provincial assembly and it will start with initial funding of Rs. 10 million, he informed.
The IGP Sindh said that as a result of hectic efforts, the Police have succeed in controlling heinous acts including highways robbery, dacoity and kidnapping for ransom in almost all divisions of the province. Besides, numbers of cases have been detected including the murder of the persons of Bohra community in Hyderabad, he said and added that it because of the effective strategy which formed in view of the available intelligence reports and meeting with the Governor Sindh, Sindh Chief Minister and other high ups of the government.
The strategy also brought positive results in controlling the sectarian killings and effective action against terrorists, he said and added that ulema of all sects are being sensitized to point out the anti state elements if they have evidences against them.
As a result of joint action of the Police and Rangers, around 165 target killers have so far been arrested who confessed target killings of 270 to 280 people. Besides, the Police have also detected 550 cases of other murders in the province.
Responding to a question, the IGP Sindh said that the orders of the Supreme Court are being implemented in letter and spirit and whatever the lacunas, which observed by the apex court are being removed with sincere efforts.
Replying to an other question about law and order situation in Karachi,
Fayyaz Ahmed Khan Leghari said that a third force has been engaged in disturbing the economy of Karachi by using the criminals. Except the murders of personal enmity, the hands of the third force in target killing could not be ruled out, he said and added that the said force wanted to destabilize the country by creating different issues.
