This poem is in memory of Iqbal Haider who passed away this week in Karachi.
Miss me, but let me go
When I come to the end of the day
And the sun has set for me;
I want no rites in a gloom filled room,
Why cry for a soul set free?
Miss me a little, but not too long
And not with your head bowed low.
Remember the love we once shared,
Miss me, but let me go.
For this is a journey we all must take,
And each must go alone.
It’s all part of the Maker’s plan,
A step on the road to home.
When you are lonely and sick at heart
Go to the friends we know
And smile at the things we used to do.
Miss me, but let me go.
HUMAYUN AKHTAR
Lahore
iqbal Haider was perhaps amongst few real Liberal politicians that lived in this country. He was a Federal Minister, but his name has never been tainted with corruption, a feat which few can lay claim to. Haider had the courage to call a spade a spade and he never minced words while criticising MQM and held them responsible for the mayhem and politics of violence in Karachi. He distanced himself from the PPP led by A to Z. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
Sorry it should have been Humayun Akhtar – London and not Lahore
