Lahore has never been a conservative city for hosting cultural and sports activities; it is the hub of film industry, stage dramas, cricket, hockey and whatnot. The people of Lahore are known for their gluttony and entertainment flair. However, the current gala of youth festivals and sports in Lahore is a refreshing dimension to the depressing national scenario. The presence of foreigners, especially friends from East Punjab, has added colour to these occasions. It all looks normal. Young girls are also participating in these events enthusiastically. Parents have apparently allowed their daughters to participate in singing, dancing and fun events unhesitantly and unreservedly. It is not surprising. Everybody is enjoying, perhaps the dreadful Taliban outfits too. It reflects the confidence of the Punjab leadership. Why such events cannot be organised in Karachi, Peshawar and Quetta? Is it the fear of Taliban or lack of political vision?
