The COAS’ statement

A lot of concern is being shown on Gen Kayani’s statement in which he said that all institutions should learn to stay within limits. Is it wrong? Is it a ‘threat’? What kind of threat it is, if at all it is a threat? All institutions have to work within a specified formula laid down in constitution and it is unanimously agreed or should be agreed by all institutions and individuals in power. There is nothing new about it and there is no ambiguity in this.
Actually, the COAS’ statement is directed towards the work performance of ‘Executive’ and ‘Legislature’ to be precise. Executive is virtually zero in performance. If at all any directive is issued it has technical flaws and absurd in its very nature. The provincial governments are miserably failing in Sindh and Balochistan. The CMs of both these provinces are absolutely impotent in work performance and efficacy. Governments within the government have been created. Sharjeel Memon, Mansoor Wassan, MQM and ANP are working all independent of one another and without the consent of the CM. Dr Ishrat-ul-Abbad, the Governor, is running his own government. Hundreds of thousands of rain-flood victims are still moaning under the pangs of misery and no one knows what to do to redeem the situation.
The NA and Senate are thronged with one scandal or the other. Fake degrees, dual nationality, undeclared assets, misappropriated expenses and funds are just a few to mention of these scandals. No legislation is done unless the order comes from the ‘non-interfering’ top. PM is as useless as his deal with Turkish vessel not being able to deliver even two MWs of electricity in 10 months. Elections are at hand. The ECP is working to sort out the mess created in voters list etc.
If the army chief, at this sorry state of affairs, comes up with his statement to remind these institutions to work within the stipulated domain, what is wrong with that? Is it wrong telling one’s son or daughter to confine to studies when exams are nearing? Politicians should mend themselves. They have been fooling us for 65 years. They better get ready to deliver now.
Gen Kayani has reminded them of this as COAS. There is nothing wrong in it. Justice Iftikhar as CJP and other SC judges keep telling us in reported remarks almost daily as to where the government has failed. What I don’t understand is why our so-called politicians are so sensitive about a remark, especially when it comes from the man who wears Pakistani flag all over his uniform. I do not also understand why these politicians have assumed the role of sole custodian of our motherland when they have plundered it with both hands, more than the invading enemy forces.
