“Far from facts”

This is in reply to Mumtaz Khan’s letter “Far from facts” (4 Nov) advancing a strange logic that I have never served or held any office in PIA. This is factually incorrect. Firstly, let me put the record straight. I have served in PIA for almost five years. Secondly, to comment on any organisation or its performance, it is not at all necessary that one should have worked in that particular organisation.
The comments should have been seen in the context these were made. Let me repeat, I said that the DMD investment was underutilised, suggesting to utilise him properly so that new avenues of investments could be explored. Otherwise, it is a burden. What is wrong with this suggestion? At no stage his capabilities have been challenged.
I would refrain from indulging in academic discussion; instead, weaknesses pointed out in the letter may be attended to avoid the collapse of PIA. It is cash starved and needs proper management to bring it out from the present crisis.

  1. The DMD in question is neither qualified, nor experienced in aviation. He was thrust upon PIA by the controversial and most corrupt Ahmed Sadiq, former Principle Sec to a former PM. Before his political appointment the DMD had served as clearing/forwarding agent and other irrrelevant jobs. It was under him that PIA Duty Free Shops went into loss and he headed PIA Marketing when the airline suffered losses of over Rs100 billion in just four years. A time when indiscipline, corruption and pilferage destroyed PIA.
