Far from facts

This is in reference to the letter of Lt Col (retd) Mukhtar Ahmed Butt dated 31 Oct0ber, 2012. The comments and observation of Mukhtar Ahmed Butt are astonishing since he has never held any office of PIA, neither he has been associated with higher management of PIA nor conversant to the airline functions.
As an ex-employee of PIA, I am conversant to the performance of Deputy Managing Director–IL, who during his posting in PIA in various departments has saved millions of dollars as cost cutting measures and increased historical revenues and seat factor in his tenure. This fact has already been unanimously acknowledged by PIA Board of Directors.
Due to his performance the then chairman PIA posted him to New York for cost cutting measures which have not been implemented for reasons unknown.
As far as PIA-IL is concerned, when PIA was having 50 percent shares, there were three directors and one managing director. Now PIA owns 100 percent shares of Investment Limited, so there is no question of under-utilization of one deputy managing director. In fact, after having 100 percent shares by PIA, and with over 100 million dollars per annum revenues, PIA-IL needs more directors from PIA to safeguard PIA’s interests in its day to day operations.
Such sweeping comments and remarks from strangers who have not been associated with PIA or PIA Investment Limited or their functioning, can only create adverse illusions in public opinion.

  1. The DMD you are talking about was responsible for losses of Rs100 Billion incurred by PIA during past 4 years. He was a political nominee, who neither had any qualification, nor airline marketing experience, other than his notorious and controversial background. This is the man who was shown on U-tube dancing with a glass of whiskey placed on his head at an official partywith other PIA GMs etc.
