The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) on Wednesday approved 5 paisa per unit increase in the power tariff under the fuel adjustment plan.
The regulator allowed the increase during a public hearing conducted in Islamabad with Nepra Chairman Ghayasuddin Ahmad in the chair.
During the hearing, Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) while seeking 6 paisa/unit increase in the power tariff, informed Nepra that cost of furnace oil during September remained Rs74,210 per metric tonne, thus, cost of electricity produced through furnace oil surged to Rs16.55 and diesel to Rs20.70 per unit.
It is pertinent to mention here that Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Oct 24 had declared fuel adjustment charges in power bills null and void.
