Adviser to the Prime Minister on Petroleum Dr Asim Hussain tendered resignation from his Senate seat on Tuesday. Although the reasons behind his resignation could not be ascertained immediately, sources say the adviser resigned from the Upper House seat due to unconfirmed reports over his dual nationality. On September 20, the Supreme Court ruled that 11 lawmakers holding dual nationalities were not eligible to hold any public offices and declared all such lawmakers disqualified. It ordered the disqualified lawmakers to return the amount spent on their salaries and perks. Acting Senate Chairman Sabir Baloch accepted Dr Asim’s resignation, sources said.
