SC summons details of formula for adjusting CNG, POL prices

The Supreme Court on Thursday summoned details of agreements with gas suppliers, formula to adjust gas prices and motives for connecting prices of CNG with petrol and weekly adjustment of petroleum products from petroleum secretary and Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) chairman.
A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry resumed the hearing against the appointment of former OGRA chairman Tauqir Sadiq.
The chief justice said CNG price per kilogramme should be Rs 17 according to Justice Bhagwandas’ report, while it had been raised to Rs 100.
Petroleum Secretary Dr Waqar Masood told the SC that they had not received any directions regarding implementation of the Bhagwandas report.
He said a subsidy of Rs 46 billion had been given to domestic consumers.
The chief justice asked how had line losses were covered and why were the common consumers suffering.
Justice Jawaad S Khawaja said prices of petroleum products were adjusted with the international market rates.
Then the Supreme Court directed the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to arrest former OGRA chairman Tauqeer Sadiq by October 24.
