Pakistan Olympic Association, President, Lt Gen (retd) Syed Arif Hasan enjoys overwhelming majority in the POA in which a dissident group has made a false attempt to show their strength during a recent general council meeting of the body. “It was a failed attempt to disrupt the smooth working of the national Olympic committee which is united under the able guidance of its President, Arif Hasan “, said a spokesman of the POA here on Wednesday. He said the fact that Gen Artif enjoys all out support and majority in the house was evident from the attendance of the meeting which reposed its confidence on him and thwarted and attempt to create disunity among the ranks. “The nominations received for this meeting were invited as per provisions of the Constitution of POA and all the affiliated Units confirmed their nominations “,he said adding “ Surprisingly the night before the meeting, the so-called dissident group boycotted that official meeting under the POA’s aegis and passed a resolution signed by the participants whose antecedents were questionable in the extreme “. The spokesman said that the dissident group tried to have dubious antecedents in the meeting as a critical analysis of the credentials of the dissidents who called meeting on October 13, revealed that Col (Retd) Zafar Ahmed nominated as representative of the Athletics Federation did sign as a representative of the Boxing Federation. The nomination received from the Pakistan Boxing Federation does not include his name there. The Athletics Federation was eligible for only three nominations whereas 4 persons attended on its behalf, in clear deviation of the POA Constitution. Prof Painda A Malik, Secretary of Gymnastics Federation, incidentally was one of the signatory as an attendee in the Meeting of October 14. “Pakistan Volleyball Federation nominated 3 persons who attended meeting of the October 14 and Muhammad Afzal who was not among the nominees did attend the meeting of the dissident group without any authority vested in him “,he said . The Balochistan Olympic Association was shown to have been represented by Lt Col (Retd) Mohammad Asif Dar who had no connections whatsoever with the Balochistan Olympic Association. He said all these circumstances showed that the dissent group tried to create a false impression on the genuineness of the meeting which took place after fulfilling all the constitutional requirements.
